Snorkelling at Blenheim Beach, Jervis Bay

Blenheim Beach is a gorgeous spot located in the Jervis Bay region of New South Wales, Australia. Known for its beautiful, clean, and white sandy beaches, the Jervis Bay area is a popular tourist destination. Blenheim Beach in the town of Vincentia is no exception, making snorkelling at Blenheim Beach worth a detour.

Marine Life

Snorkelling at Blenheim Beach offers a close encounter with a variety of marine species. Expect to see an array of fish darting in and out of the rocks and kelp growth. The shimmering Silver Sweep, Spotted Goatfish, and the vibrant Blue Gropers are commonly sighted. The water remains quite shallow across the each, so you will mostly get the smaller reef locals.

This underwater paradise also hosts octopuses, starfish, sea cucumbers, and a multitude of crustaceans. If you are lucky, you might spot friendly seals or playful dolphins frolicking nearby. And keep an eye open for Port Jackson Sharks, who are also spotted regularly.

How to get to there?

The trip to Blenheim Beach is an experience in itself. Located within the broader Jervis Bay area in New South Wales, the beach is approximately 190 kilometres south of Sydney. The easiest way to reach Blenheim Beach is by car. Following the M1 and Jervis Bay Road, you will arrive at the location in about 2 hours and 40 minutes (Route from Sydney to Blenheim Beach).

Public transport options are also available. Regular trains run from Sydney to Bomaderry. From Bomaderry, you can hop on a bus to Vincentia, and then take a short taxi ride to Blenheim Beach.

If you are going to visit Jervis Bay, best option is to spend a few days so you discover area. There are several excellent swimming and snorkelling spots, and the nearby national parks offer excellent hiking.

What facilities are available?

Blenheim Beach is well equipped with facilities to ensure a comfortable visit. There is a car park located close to the beach, making accessibility a breeze. You will find a picnic area nestled amidst the lush vegetation, complete with BBQ facilities for a delightful beachside lunch. Public toilets and showers are available, meaning snorkelers don’t have to compromise on comfort.

There is also a small playground, making this a good option for families with kids. While there are no gear rental shops directly on the beach, several stores in nearby Vincentia and Huskisson offer snorkelling equipment for hire.

Reefranger’s Take

Blenheim beach is one of those locations which manages to offer both interesting wildlife opportunities, and the comfort of many facilities. This beach is where I spotted my first Port Jackson Shark, so I will always have a fond memory. I will continue to explore other beaches around Jervis Bay, but this is already one of my favourites.
